National Teach-In

On October 21, 2009, ELCO High School students and staff members participated in the History Channel's National Teach-In at the Library of Congress in Washington D. C. The Teach-In highlighted the work of Mr. Jon Bickel, high school English teacher, who is the lead teacher for the Veterans History Project at ELCO High School, and the work of his students.  Mr. Bob Patrick, director of the Veterans History Project, extended an invitation for Mr. Bickel to participate as one of the panel members for the event.  The panel featured experts on veteran affairs. The show was broadcast to over 1,000 school districts across the United States and included questions about how a school can participate in the Veterans History Project, how to find veterans to interview, and the importance of the Veterans History Project for veterans.
Elco students were recognized for their active participation and thoroughness in completing the interviews, and  transcripts for the project and their continued efforts to tell the stories of our nation's veterans.

Mr. Bickel and students also invited veterans who participated in the Veterans History Project to accompany them to Washington D.C. and participate in the day's festivities.
